After graduating as a Pharmacist from Idaho State in 1950 and desiring to start a business in Utah, Stan and his wife Norene Bennion left their home in Logan to travel the state in search of a good business location.
After looking at places in Bingham, Toole, Grantsville and Salt Lake City, they just happened to stop in Roy on their way home. The more they looked at the area the more they liked it. Stan figured the area could use a good drugstore so they relocated their family to Roy.
In 1951 Stan and Norene opened the Bennion Drug on the corner of 1900 W. and 5600 S. in Roy. The Bennion Drug included a confectionary, a fountain and all the merchandise one would hope to find in a drugstore in the mid 1950’s. Eventually the store included items for animal care, which made the store a first place stop for farmers in the area.
In 1957 the business expanded to include a new building located at 1931 W. 5600 S. in Roy. A Ben Franklin franchise was purchased from Butler Brothers and the Ben Franklin Variety store opened in that location.
In 1965 a new shopping center located further west on 5600 S. was built to include an Albertsons food store. The Bennion Drug store and Ben Franklin Variety store were combined in to one location and the store was named Roy Drug Center located at 1975 W. 5600 S.
In 1985 the business expanded once again to gain more square footage and to include the addition of craft merchandise including fabric and framing departments. The business was renamed Ben Franklin Crafts.
In 1991, the shopping center was demolished and the Ben Franklin Craft store relocated across the street to the North side at 1946 W. 5600 S. to gain more square footage for the ever growing craft business and to accommodate for expansion of a new Albertsons Food and Drug store. With over 20,000 square feet of retail space in the new location, the Ben Franklin Craft store became one of the largest retail craft stores in Northern Utah.
In 1997, Brothers Steve and Scott Bennion opened a second 20,000 square foot location in Kaysville, Utah and on April 1st, 2012 have again opened another location at 4335 Harrison Blvd. in Ogden Utah under the name Bennion Craft and Frame.
The retail business has been good to our family for many years and we appreciate the friendships that we have made and look forward to serving the community for many years to come.

We are so excited for our upcoming Operation Write Home event, and we want to share some details with all of you! Operation Write Home is a well-known organization that ships handcrafted greeting cards to deployed troops so that they may send them to their families and loved ones.
Our Operation Write Home event will consist of several volunteers at both locations. Volunteers will have many options for card making and we will have cards for every level of crafter. There is a place for everyone! At our event volunteers will have the option to:
- Recreate cards that are pre cut
- Design their own cards with our supplies
- Create cards for the heroes themselves
- Write letters of appreciation to our heroes.
- Bring finished cards from home
Here are some examples of the cards you will be making:
The event is just around the corner so grab your pen and jot down the date!
Date: Saturday, August 18th
Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm
Place: Bennion Crafts & Frame
354 N. Main Street
Kaysville, Utah 84037
(801) 444-1177
&
Bennion Crafts & Frame
4335 S. Harrison Blvd
Ogden, Utah 84403
(801) 475-7400
Donations are not required but are always welcome! We are looking for donated craft supplies such as adhesive, paper or embellishments and.. oh yeah! Envelopes! A great way to donate is to just bring your own craft supplies (glue, trimmer, etc.) to make the cards with, then you can take your craft supplies back home with you AND you helped out a ton!
What about food? Great question! We will have treats supplied but we’ll want to take care while around the craft projects.
We are always looking for more volunteers so if you know a group or organization that may be willing to help please contact Lezlie in Kaysville or Debby in Ogden.
Can’t wait to see all of you next week! And for more info about the non-profit organization Operation Write Home click here.

Ribbon, Ribbon, Ribbon
Ribbon is an essential part of any craft project, and is very versatile. You can paint and dye ribbon, attach brads and embellishments, you can even stamp on ribbon! Our ribbon section is stocked full with several different brands, including Lion, May Art and Creative Impressions~ just to name a few!
Ready for a cool ribbon tip? You got it! To keep your ribbon from fraying after it has been cut, use a match or a lighter and slowly move the flame back and forth on the cut edge to singe the end. Be careful not to catch your ribbon on fire!
You can use many different colors and kinds of ribbon together. Below we have an arrangement Mike created by weaving ribbon around a square glass container:

Isn’t it gorgeous? You can also click on this link to see more projects from Bennion Crafts..
